Squig Herd

Night Goblins live deep within mines and caverns. These dark and deep places have their own internalised eco-system of strange monstrosities and other creatures. Cave bats, blind fish, newts, pale reptiles, strange birds, fungus and of course, Squigs.

A Squig is, to try to define it so one may understand what a Squig is, a creature that is more like a walking ball of teeth with sharp claws, horns, and a pretty foul odour. They are, for the most part, bipedal; although there are some with four legs, sometimes even more. They hop around from place to place in great bounds. They are a creature of pure malicious attitude that likes to eat anyone or anything they can wrap their great jaws around. This is often a hapless Goblin or a bullied Snotling. <.P>

Squigs are a creature that is rumoured to be part fungus and part flesh. How they came about is anyone's guess. They are, however, a favourite pet, food, creature of war and mount for the insane Night Goblin tribes.

Night Goblins often go deep into caves looking for squig nests or adult Squigs. They prod and goad them out of their hiding places with prodders, forks, flaming torches, Squig pipes, drums, other instruments of terrfying sound or whatever they happen to have on hand. They go in teams, sometimes carrying nets and others carrying bait, in the form of meat, a handy Snotling or a weakling goblin.

They are herded up to the Night Goblin Cavern City. They are moved into high walled corral until they are either sorted to go into battle, sold as pets or eaten during the next meal.

Squig meat is delicious, Squig hide is useful for making clothing and often is used for the sinew that is used to string the giant spear chukkas. Squig hide has many uses and is particularly good for making solid, long wearing foot wear. Squig claws and teeth make interesting jewllery and Squig bones are perfect for carving.

Squig Hoppers

Some Night Goblins make a show of mounting the wild Squigs and bounding along their backs as spectators cheer them on. These insane Squig riders are known as Squig Hoppers.
